2 factors to consider when choosing the right forks?
1. Wheel Size: What size wheels do you need to run on your setup, and will those wheels be smaller than
the max wheel size of the forks you want.
2. Compression Type: What type of compression will the fork work with, and will this compatible with your scooter setup?
IHC Forks = 28mm Diameter tube (with shim included) are a thinner fork tube and lighter but slightly weaker.
SCS/HIC Forks = 31.8mm for SCS or 34.9mm for HIC (with shim included), are stronger due to a thicker headtube, but also heavier
There are many different types of forks, these include; IHC, SCS, HIC, Threaded. SCS forks are generally labelled SCS/HIC this is due to them sharing the same fork diameter. These require either a HIC shim or an SCS clamp to be fitted to the scooter correctly.
IHC forks work in the same way as HIC, using a shim and a bolt to compress the headset with the forks, the main difference is that the diameter of the forks is smaller. This allows standard sized bars and Aluminium bars to be used with this compression system.
Threaded forks are the oldest form of fork, these rely on threads that are cut into the stem of the fork with large nuts that screw down to compress the headset. Threaded systems are the simplest to maintain and are usually found on beginner scooters.
Fork Offset refers to the amount that the wheel axle is moved forward from the centre of the forks. Most forks come with 10 degrees / 10mm of offset, some forks come with zero offset. Zero offset can be useful when learning and performing tricks such and Nose Manuals and Foot Jams.
The Fork Length is the length of the “stem” that goes through the headtube of the deck. The fork length is very similar between forks, there can be minor variations however this will usually not be an issue on most scooters.
